Alexander Siddig is best known as Dr. Julian Bashir on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

And Siddig played that role with compassion, being the caring doctor that injured people needed. Right now, more than ever, there are a lot of people who are injured in the world, physically and mentally, and Alexander Siddig has taken on a new role—a friend to his fans, and he’s doing that by Sid City Social Club which is a bi-weekly Zoom meeting where fans can sign up to talk with him one on one.

And these aren’t your regular Q&A session with an actor. In these sessions, Siddig talks to the fan like they’re an old friend, takes an interest in their lives, asks them questions about their jobs, their hobbies, and is a listening ear. This is his way of reaching out to as many people as he can to make sure they are okay. It also gives fans a chance to interact with one another and talk about something other than the pandemic.

"The friendships that I think people are creating are real, even though the communication is virtual. It’s just a wonderful place. It’s a wonderful space to talk."

Sid City Social Club was the brain child of Siddig and Melissa Lowery who runs his official fan club via his website). who both felt that something should be done to connect people who otherwise might not have any connection.

"We figured that it would be best to talk to people, find out what they were doing, how they were coping, because at the time it was a really intense lockdown for most people in the States, and most people in the world. We were worried that people weren’t going to get out, weren’t communicating with people, weren’t getting the comfort of communication."

Along with this welcome interaction, Siddig performs plays written by fans, inviting fellow DS9 castmates to participate as well as his son. And often, he invites fan favorites like Nana Visitor and Cirroc Lofton, to join him on the live Zoom sessions which are lifting the spirits of fans from around the world.
