Star Trek fans are everywhere! Let’s take a look at nine celebrities you never knew were Trekkies.

ICYMI: 10 Reasons Jean-Luc Picard Was The Best Star Trek Captain

Star Trek has always attracted a global following for a variety of reasons; celebrities and politicians have often admitted to having a soft spot for the Star Trek franchise. Here are 10 celebrities that you may not have known were also Trekkies!

Mila Kunis

Hollywood sweetheart, Mila Kunis, has confessed her love for everything Star Trek by attending conventions and meeting her Trek heroes. Kunis says that she has been a Trekkie since the age of 10.  Like many fans born in 1980’s Mila’s favorite series is said to be Star Trek: The Next Generation and she apparently has an enviable memorabilia collection.

When asked her favorite Star Trek series was Kunis told GQ:

"“This list is an ongoing argument between Seth MacFarlane and myself. But I have it: The Next Generation; the original series; then Voyager. After Voyager, then I have Deep Space Nine. Then last is Enterprise. I went to the Star Trek Experience in Vegas maybe five years ago. I hung out with a bunch of fake characters inside Quark’s bar. There were all these actors there pretending to be the different characters from the different shows. I loved it. I also have a signed Leonard Nimoy photo in a little frame that a girlfriend gave to me for my 21st birthday. And I’ve got a bunch of vintage Star Trek figurines given to me by Jason Segel.”"

Mila Kunis is a Trekkie extraordinaire.

Next: Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig

Yes, James Bond himself is a Trekkie. Perhaps it’s because Bond sees his space captain double in the ever dangerous to foe and lady Captain James T. Kirk?

In interviews Daniel Craig has admitted that he would love to star in a Star Trek show. He couldn’t possibly be the next captain could he?

Whilst Craigs tenure as Bond maybe coming to an end, he is signed up to star in a new US television show, and so he might be unavailable for a Star Trek role. It’s also rumored that Craig had a cameo in the Star Wars movie as a Stormtrooper, but he has never confirmed this.

Daniel Craig certainly has the love of sci-fi in his heart and he would make a pretty awesome captain! Check out who else we think would be a great captain for the new series.

That’s Bond, Captain Bond.

Next: Rihanna

Rihanna

Not to be confused with the Romulan from the Star Trek expanded universe, Barbadian pop sensation, Rihanna, has revealed that she is an avid Star Trek fan. Whilst she hasn’t revealed her favorite series publicly, we can speculate that she is a fan of TNG, given that she was inspired by Geordie La Forge’s eye piece and designed a set of sunglasses for Dior based on them.

"“I’ve always been obsessed with his eyewear, and when I got to Dior and saw all the materials I could play with, it all just came together. The process was pretty seamless. I spent a day at Dior with their eyewear design team. I started by looking through all the archives to see what they’ve done in the past, and then got acquainted with all the new materials.”"

It is quite possible that Rihanna is one of Star Trek’s coolest fans.

Next: Seth MacFarlane

Seth MacFarlane

When he’s not creating some of the funniest shows on television, such as Family Guy, American Dad and Cleveland Show, Seth MacFarlane is getting his Star Trek fix wherever he goes. So much so in fact, that he even snagged himself a cameo role on Star Trek Enterprise as Ensign Rivers.

Seth also used Star Trek in his show, Family Guy, as a means of getting a political message across. He often used references from TNG and other series in his work and is very open about his ove for the show. He spoke previously before the announcement of the new series in 2017 and revealed that he would love to see it happen:

"“I don’t know who would give me the keys to that car. But, I’d love to see that franchise revived for television in the way that it was in the 1990s: very thoughtful, smartly written stories that transcend the science fiction audience.”"

Next: Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks

I don’t actually remember a bad Tom Hanks movie. He is such a talented actor and his characters are always fantastic. He owns 2 Oscars, and will probably get more at the rate he makes epic movies, although he turned down the chance to star as Zefram Cochrane in Star Trek: First Contact because he was busy on another project. The studio approached Hanks as they knew he was a huge Trekkie and it would have been difficult for him to say no.

He has recently rekindled his interest in appearing in a Star Trek role and said he would like to play a “peaceful Romulan” in a movie one day. Simon Pegg put Tom’s Trek trivia to the test in this interview for British chat show, The Graham Norton Show.

Next: Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s leading ladies and has scored a string of recent hits. She says she is a proud Trekkie and would love to star in the franchise at some point. She also declared that Star Trek was one of her inspirations for becoming an actor.

"“I grew up as a Trekkie, which is really funny. I think Star Trek, they were always great female roles, but there’s no reason the captain shouldn’t be a woman. I think we could do Captain Kirk as a woman. I’m really glad they’re revisiting Alien again, because Alien had a huge effect on me as an actor.”"

Next: Ben Stiller

Ben Stiller

It’s not easy to notice, but Ben Stiller does make several references to Star Trek franchise in his movies. Both Tropic Thunder and Zoolander both have more than a few. He is also the proud owner of a set of Spock ears that are signed by the one and only, Leonard Nimoy.

I am not so sure that Derek Zoolander would do so well in space, but he would certainly make it look good with his famous pose – Magnum!

Next: Rosario Dawson

Rosario Dawson

Rosario Dawson is a huge Star Trek fan and she claims that she even speaks Klingon! She claims that she had plenty of arguments with family members entirely in Klingon!

"“Some of the films are great, some of the films are not great, but you get into it, the world has always been remarkable. Imagine a world in the future where we didn’t have money and it was really about excellence and exploration. I can’t wait to have a holodeck. You will never see me again, ever.”"

Next: Jason Segel

Jason Segel

Jason Segel is one of the funniest guys on television and has starred in several hit movies in recent times. I remember him from the hilarious How I Met Your Mother, a show which was a global hit and loved by million. His love of all things Trek is well known in the business and he even gave Mila Kunis a set of vintage Star Trek figurines and if that is not the way to a woman’s heart then I don’t know what is. Segal recently hosted SciTech awards with fellow actor, Olivia Munn, and they couldnt help but reference their favourite show:

Next: Elon Musk

Elon Musk

Elon Musk is one of my absolute heroes. He is the head of SpaceX, and if you have been living under rock for the past few years, SpaceX is the company that is making space exploration cool again. He already has several successful ISS resupply missions under his belt and after a few initial snags; they seem to be nailing the landings which will make space flight a lot cheaper.

"“Reusable rockets are vastly important if you think it’s important that humanity span beyond earth and become a multi-planetary species. If you can imagine watching Star Trek, and if they built a new star ship after every trip? It’s pretty silly. And all the other transports we use — planes, trains, cars, bikes — are all reusable. But not rockets.”"

He has revealed that some of what inspired him to reach for the stars was his love of science fiction, including Star Trek and Star Wars.

Next: POTUS

President Obama

Yes, thats affirmative, POTUS is a Trekkie. Whatever your political affiliations, you have to admit that Obama has been one of the coolest presidents in memory. It was long rumored that Barack Obama had a Star Trek connection, and he confirmed this when he met Nichelle Nichols at the Oval Office in 2012. He was deeply saddened by the passing of Leonard Nimoy and felt taht it was only right to meet with his family:

"“Long before being nerdy was cool, there was Leonard Nimoy. Leonard was a lifelong lover of the arts and humanities, a supporter of the sciences, generous with his talent and his time. And of course, Leonard was Spock. Cool, logical, big-eared and level-headed, the center of Star Trek’s optimistic, inclusive vision of humanity’s future. I loved Spock. In 2007, I had the chance to meet Leonard in person. It was only logical to greet him with the Vulcan salute, the universal sign for ‘Live long and prosper.’ And after 83 years on this planet – and on his visits to many others – it’s clear Leonard Nimoy did just that. Michelle and I join his family, friends and countless fans who miss him so dearly today.”"
