Star Trek and its actors have never been afraid to take part in a little self roasting of the beloved franchise, and these are some the best Trek spoofs out there!

ICYMI: Here are our top 10 picks to take the captain’s chair on Star Trek Discovery.

Over the course of the years that Star Trek has graced both our TV and cinema screens, there has been plenty of parodies and spoofs aimed at the beloved franchise. Most have been in good humor and are a loving comedic tribute to the universe created by Gene Roddenberry 50 years ago.

The best of these spoofs are of course the ones in which the actors from Star Trek take an active part! To me, that is part of what makes the franchise so enduring, the Star Trek alumni are still willing to participate in a skit or sketch honoring Trek. It show’s that even after all this time they still enjoy being  a part of Star Trek and do not take themselves too seriously.

So here are a few of the best examples of Star Trek alumni spoofing Trek.

Next: Futurama

Futurama

This fine (if relatively short) example of William Shatner not only being in a show that is poking fun at Star Trek, but taking part in a skit aimed at his own singing career! In this episode entitled Where no fan has gone before, sees Fry and the crew of the Original Series face off against another huge Trek fan… in this case a floating energy field. I wont go into too much detail in case you haven’t seen the episode but I do suggest that you track it down as its full to the brim of trek references and in jokes!

Next: Star Trek The Game Trailer

Star Trek The Game Trailer

This trailer was for the game that was released just after JJ Abrams rebooted Star Trek film in 2009. The game wasn’t really all that good, however, the idea of having Shatner face off with a Gorn was a stroke of genius and still makes me laugh today!

Star Trek the Game might have been a bit of a bust, but the Star Trek the Game trailer was anything but!

Next: Leonard Nimoy On The Simpsons

Leonard Nimoy on The Simpsons

Leonard Nimoy guest stars as himself in this wonderful Simpsons episode. One of the running jokes of the episode is that Leonard Nimoy is talking about Star Trek and the people around him are sick of hearing about it. Personally I don’t know how anyone could get sick of hearing Leonard Nimoy talk about Star Trek…

Next: The cast of Fraser mans Voyager's bridge

Captain Janeway and the cast of Fraser

This wacky sketch was done as a part of the Star Trek: 30 Years and Beyond celebration from 1996. Both Fraser and Voyager were very popular at the time and even though this gets a bit silly it’s great fun to watch.

You may notice that Fraser himself Kelsey Grammer, who actually appeared in the Star Trek: the Next Generation episode “Cause and Effect,” is absent however. For the time being just enjoy the comedy goodness of Niles Crane interacting with Captain Janeway!

Next: Night Crew

Night Crew

Robot Chicken explores what happens when the bridge crew of the Enterprise goes off duty for the night in their hilarious “Night Crew” skit.

Robot Chicken is the brain child of Seth Green and has featured a large amount of Star Trek references and skits. In fact if you go to YouTube you can view an entire playlist of just Star Trek Robot Chicken spoofs. This one however is my favorite as it’s just bonkers! It also features both Patrick Stewart AND Chris Pine!

Next: Family Guy

Family Guy

Family Guy has had a plethora of Star Trek skits and jokes because its creator Seth MacFarlane is a huge Star Trek fan; MacFarlane even appeared on Star Trek: Enterprise as guest star once.

Above all, this is my favorite. The idea that the cast of the Next Generation cast are like a bunch of misbehaving hard to handle children that a BABY has to look after? Well that just beyond genius, well done Mr Macfarlane, well done!

Star Trek spoofs haven’t always gone right though, as you can see in our final spoof.

Next: Shatner on SNL

Shatner on SNL

Williams Shatner’s SNL skit about Star Trek conventions stirred up a lot of controversy among Trekkies. Some people thought Shatner was really mocking them and their love of Star Trek. While the Shat may not always be the most diplomatic celebrity I think this was just a case of having some good fun on SNL. After all, it’s healthy to laugh at yourself from time to time.
