1996 Patrick Stewart stars in the new movie "Star Trek: First Contact".

New edition of Star Trek: First Contact is on Paramount+

Paramount+ has brought Star Trek: First Contact to their streaming service in a brand new way. The film has been improved to be able to stream in 4K, and the new edition is considered the highest definition available by far.

Far more improved than even the Blu-Ray version. This seems to be part of the streaming services’ desire to get fans to see the movie before it leaves the platform on July 31 in the United States. It will eventually return once other obligations are fulfilled but fans will have to wait sometime after it leaves Paramount+ on July 31.

The first four original films have been updated into 4K Blu Ray and the fifth and sixth Star Trek films are coming as well; so it won’t be long until First Contact and other Star Trek films are given the same treatment as well.

The new 4K HDR Edition of Star Trek: First Contact is nothing more than an excuse to buy the movie again and we’re ok with that

Listen, we all know the endgame is to sell the film once again for home purchases. There’s nothing “new” about the 4K version of the film, and most fans are going to see little improvement between the 4K and Blu-Ray version, but ya know what?

We don’t mind.

Star Trek: First Contact is as good as any Star Trek film ever, and in my opinion is leaps and bounds more enjoyable than Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. So if Star Trek wants to keep finding new ways to sucker me and other Trek fans into watching the film, then so be it.

It’s not like I need an “excuse” to watch this film any more than I already have or already will. It’s fantastic. Give me more First Contact.
