Star Trek Discovery showrunner Bryan Fuller tweeted a picture from a makeup test which makes us think the classic blue Star Trek aliens may be making a comeback in CBS’ new series.
ICYMI: Who will be Star Trek Discovery’s captain?
You can almost guarantee that Star Trek Discovery will have appearances from Klingons and Vulcans, it is a Star Trek show after all, but what about the other alien species?
One species that we can probably expect to see is the Andorians thanks to this tweet from Star Trek Discovery showrunner Bryan Fuller.

Those certainly do look like unfinished Andorian antennae don’t they? This isn’t the first time Bryan Fuller has tweeted an unfinished version of a prop, he also tweeted a picture of the wooden skeleton of the Discovery’s captain’s chair.
So they Andorians are back… but what other classic Trek aliens will be reappearing? Click the button below to check out the Star Trek alien species we want to see make an appearance in Star Trek Discovery.
Next: The Gorn
The Gorn
The hissing lizard like Gorn are a
classic thanks to their epic duel with Captain James T. Kirk. Kirk wont the duel with a bazooka made from bamboo that shot diamonds and then sparred the Gorn’s life, as only Kirk could. For a species that had such a unique and menacing look and were part of a classic
episode we really haven’t seen too much of the Gorn. It would be interesting to find out more about this reptilian species, perhaps seeing their jungle or swamp home world and then learning in a heartfelt captain’s log that despite being lizard people they really aren’t all that different than us.
Next: The Caitian
The Caitian
The Caitian first appeared on Star Trek: The Animated Series, but have also made minor appearances in several Star Trek movies. The feline style beings vary from version to version, but we do know that they are members of the Federation.
A Caitian character in the new series might give us a chance to explore their habits and culture a bit more. Perhaps the Caitans can’t eat replicated food and need real meat? This would be the kind of interesting quirk that could cause problems, like the Cardassians loving heat due to their reptilian ancestry.
Next: The Q
The Q
Most of the aliens on this list are a bit obscure, they are characters we’ve hardly met and species we haven’t explored, but you can’t say that about Q. The Q are an omnipotent race of beings that existed on an extra-dimensional plane known as the Q continuum, and their appearance usually meant fantastic Star Trek. Dealing with Q brought out the best and worst in humanity and the Federation, plus John de Lanice is a delight. Star Trek: Enterprise didn’t have a Q episode, and we missed him, bring back Q!
Next: The Yridian
The Yridian
The Yridian were the information brokers of the Star Trek universe. This is a species that survives by charging others for information, an entire world of snitches. If Star Trek Discovery is in some way connected to Section 31, the outside the law spy agency of the Federation, then dealings with the Yridians would be very interesting. Just don’t trust the Yridians… that can be a fatal mistake.
Next: The Edosan
The Edosan
The Edosan or Edosians were first seen in
Star Trek: The Animated Series
. What made these aliens unique is that they had three legs instead of two. The reason why these aliens haven’t appeared on a live action
series before is obvious, it wouldn’t have looked good given the special effects abilities of the day. That’s not the case anymore though. An Edosian crewman appears in the fan film above in the last few moments, and although it’s a fan level production you can see how it could be done.
Next: The Mizarian
The Mizarian
The Mizarians were complete pacifists, but more than that, they were collaborators. The Mizarians had survived for thousands of years by simply yielding to whatever power conquered them, they put up no resistance. The idea was that they would outlive their oppressors by collaborating and surviving. It’s an interesting philosophy for a species to have and it would be worth exploring further.
Next: The Cheron
The Cheron
This one might be a bit tricky since when Kirk and the Enterprise encounter the Cheron their are only two of them left in existence. The Cheron were a species at war with itself over race, one race was white on the right side and black on the left side, while the other was black on the right side and white on the left site. The Federation did encounter the Cheron before this though, and if Star Trek Discovery is set before Star Trek: The Original Series it would be interesting to explore just how the Cheron race war got started.
Next: The Ferengi
The Ferengi
The Ferengi were well explored in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but I don’t care, they are my favorites. We all have a favorite Star Trek alien species right? What’s better than Quark and his sneaky economic dealings?
