Seth MacFarlane’s new live action comedy sounds like a mix of Star Trek, Family Guy, and Galaxy Quest.

ICYMI: CBS’ plan to release Star Trek as weekly episodes, instead of as complete seasons, shows they don’t understand streaming platforms.

Seth MacFarlane is the current king of primetime television animation, but now he’s ready to make the leap into live action TV. According to Deadline Hollywood MacFarlane’s first live action TV comedy will premiere on Fox in the spring of 2017, and it will be set in space.

MacFarlane’s space comedy sounds like a mix of Family Guy, Star Trek, and Galaxy Quest. The new series will revolve around the adventures of the Orville a run down ship in Earth’s interstellar exploratory fleet.

"“I’ve wanted to do something like this show ever since I was a kid, and the timing finally feels right,” said MacFarlane."

MacFarlane has been vocal about his love of

Star Trek

and has included many

Star Trek

scenes into his animated series. MacFarlane even famously reunited the entire

Star Trek: The Next Generation

cast for one episode of Family Guy.

If anyone can do a space exploration comedy and make it hilarious it’s Seth MacFarlane. Seth will undoubtedly use his Star Trek fan knowledge to put lots of nods to Trek in the series.

Some Star Trek fans will probably hate on this series, because it will poke fun at Star Trek, but that’s not the right way to look at it. Star Trek‘s popularity is surging back with a vengeance and the fact that MacFarlane and Fox think this is the perfect time to spoof the series is only further proof of that. So not only will we get a new Star Trek series in 2017, we will also get a new Star Trek spoof series? Beam us aboard!
