New Star Trek Board Game Coming This Summer

It might sound like another Star Trek fan film, but Star Trek: Ascendency is a brand new board game set to be released in the summer of 2016 by Gale Force Nine.

ICYMI: Enterprise With An Instrumental Opening

I’ve always loved board games, right from an early age. I would spend hours playing tense battles of Monopoly, Risk, Snakes and Ladders and Scrabble with my siblings. Many years later, I often meet up with friends of mine to have ‘board-games-nights’ which I seriously look forward to. It’s a chance to meet up with friends, grab a few beers and chat whilst playing some interesting and competitive games.

So I was extremely pleased to learn about a new board game that involved Star Trek. It’s a game of expansion, exploration and war, with 3 of the main Star Trek civilizations; the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Star Empire. 2 Expansion packs are going to arrive later in the year, allowing for players to also choose the Cardassian Union and the Ferengi Alliance.

The aim is to control the galaxy and you can do this via exploration, developing trade routes and collecting resources. Then you will defend your territory with you warships and negotiate your way to victory. You can colonize planets from the Star Trek television series and attack other planets and bring them to submission.

This is how Gale Force Nine describe the game:

"“Journey for peace and exploration or…travel the path of conquest and exploitation. Command starships, establish space lanes, construct starbases, and bring other systems under your banner. With more than two hundred plastic miniatures and thirty star systems representing some of the Star Trek Galaxy’s most notable planets and locations, Star Trek: Ascendancy puts the fate of the Galaxy in the hands of the player. ”"

Although a release date has not yet been given, Gale Force Nine say the game will be available from their website at some point over the summer and in most major board game retailers. I am certainly looking forward to getting a set for myself!
