Ian McShane has been in everything. His most iconic role was as Swearengen on HBO’s Deadwood. On Deadwood, his character was a conniving criminal mastermind who used deceit and murder to get his way. Now he’s set to play a yet to be named character on HBO’s Game of Thrones. McShane’s Star Trek captain would obviously have to be very different than others we’ve seen, but his trademark intensity and with would still be able to shine through.

If the Star Trek series decides to go with a more gritty tone than in previous incarnations, Ian McShane could be the perfect captain. While we still hope that the Star Trek series will focus on a brighter future for humanity, the darker side of science fiction is extremely popular right now. Perhaps the series will want to visit a darker part of the Federation’s history with Ian McShane’s captain in command.
