Patton Oswalt is a nerd legend, a stand up comedian, and an actor. Oswalt has always described himself as a Star Wars fan, but we don’t think he would turn down the chance to boldly go as a Star Trek captain. He would certainly not be the commanding captain of a Federation flagship, but would shine as the quirky commander of a smaller Federation vessel. Oswalt’s nerdy humor would definitely bring something new to the captain’s chair.

All of the Star Trek captains so far have been very impressive individuals. Maybe it’s time for an everyman’s Star Trek captain. Star Trek captains are certainly supposed to be inspiring, but what could be more inspiring than seeing someone you really identify with as the commander of a starship?
