It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con today that the new CBS Star Trek series would be called Star Trek Discovery and a new trailer was shown!
Today during the ‘Star Trek: Celebrating 50 Years’ panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego it was announced that the new CBS Star Trek series would be titled Star Trek Discovery.
Star Trek Discovery will be the sixth Star Trek live action television series after Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise. Star Trek Discovery will be the seventh total Star Trek series if you count Star Trek: The Animated Series.
The trailer for Star Trek Discovery:
The Discovery looks very similar to the Ralph McQuarrie concept art for Star Trek Phase 2.
Besides the name we now know a good bit about the Star Trek Discovery including what the captain’s chair looks like, and that David Semel will direct the series.
Even though Star Trek is sitting at what appears to be an all time high in popularity with Star Trek Beyond on pace to do $60 million dollars this weekend and Star Trek’s 50th anniversary coming in September the new the announcement that Star Trek Discovery would be released on CBS’ streaming service CBS All Access has caused some anger among Trekkies.
If CBS’ wants to make sure that Star Trek Discovery is a success and fulfills it’s promise as the tent pole of their online streaming service they could take these four steps to almost guarantee Trekkies flock to CBS All Access.
