Star Trek: The Original Series “Amok Time”

This is Spock’s advice to Stonn the Vulcan that Spock’s betrothed has chosen over him in “Amok Time.” After T’Pring picked Stonn over Spock and then made Kirk her champion, essentially sentencing Spock or Kirk to death, Spock realizes what T’Pring is. In this quote it’s clear that he almost pitties Stonn.

How many times in life have you wanted something and then been disappointed when you got it? Whether it’s a new job, a new car, or a relationship many times the idealized version of the thing we want in our mind is far better than reality.
