The easy way to think about this classic Spock line from “The Ultimate Computer” is to think of a computer taking over our lives in a literal sense; as in the episode here or in a Terminator style future where the machines rise up.

Another way to think of computers taking over our lives though is in the sense that we become too engrossed in them. We get to the point where our lives are on the machines and we can’t operate without them. Honestly an idea best expressed in the cartoon Wall-E.

This future serving under machines is equally frightening.
