Kirk can’t speak as many languages as Picard

This goes into the cultures thing and how Kirk doesn’t really respect the people he says he does. Captain Picard can speak a ton of different languages. He has learned how to communicate with so many throughout the years because he is a debater and wants to speak with those he encounters.

Kirk relies on Uhura to do the communicating for him a lot of the time and that can come off as disrespectful. A captain should know as many languages as possible and speak to those he encounters rather than relying on a crew member to do it for him.

Yes, Uhura is a communications officer but that still doesn’t change the fact that she isn’t the captain. If Picard can speak in a multitude of languages and be as inclusive as he is, than so can Kirk. It should be a requirement from Starfleet honestly. If you’re going to be a captain, you have to speak as many languages as possible.

So Picard’s brilliant linguistics skills makes him one of the greatest of the Star Trek captains. And definitely makes him a little bit better than Kirk because let’s be real, it is important for a captain to speak to those he encounters.
