Picard’s first officer never seized control of the ship to transport a
former captain anywhere

Captain Picard never had his ship taken over by Riker to return a former captain to wherever they wanted to go. Mainly because Riker wouldn’t do that to Picard. But I guess those bets were all off for Spock because he did it in “the Menagerie”.

While it is slightly out of character for Spock, a man who was always about the rules and sticking to them, it still showed a lot about Kirk. Spock takes control of the Enterprise and transports Captain Pike. While this gives us the Captain Pike we know and love from the movie franchise, it still shows that maybe Kirk doesn’t have as much control over his crew as we thought.

But Riker would never do that to Picard. One, because he respects him too much and two, Picard would never let that happen. Kirk did. It basically just shows that Kirk is very relationship based in a lot of ways and it can end up hurting him in the long run.

If he hadn’t seen Spock as his best friend, maybe this wouldn’t have happened. But it did and it makes Captain Picard just that little bit better than Captain Kirk. Because, with Picard, it would never have happened.
