THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS

In another example of how amazing Patrick Stewart is as Picard, we have this moment. In an episode where Captain Picard is captured by the Cardassians and drugged. The entire episode, he answers their questions in a monotone voice until this scene.

What is great about this entire episode is that you just straight up could not have it with Captain Kirk. It’s not that Kirk couldn’t have handled it, if it was Chris Pine’s Kirk it would have been great. But Shatner just wasn’t up to par at that time.

Nowadays, maybe, but when he was Kirk? There is no way he could have handled a storyline like this. But then in comes Stewart, performing this with ease and proving, once again, just how amazing he is as an actor.

So not only could Kirk not survive in a situation like this, but Shatner couldn’t play Kirk in this scenario. Kirk would end up yelling and fighting with his Cardassian captors rather than taking this cool approach that Picard did. So when he finally yelled “There are four lights!” it wouldn’t have half the meaning it does when Picard finally loses it.

Basically, Picard was able to have this amazing moment because of Patrick Stewart.
