The Best Star Trek Actor From Each State
By Jeremy Dick
Maryland – Dwight Schultz
Baltimore native Dwight Schultz could be best recognized for most from his breakout TV role. On Mr. T’s classic 80s action series The A-Team, Schultz leads the crew as “Howling Mad” Murdock. Anyone who’s seen just a few minutes of an episode of The A-Team will know right away who that is. But, even so, for Trekkies, “Howling Mad” Murdock is probably the second role we would think of first.
Schultz often played the recurring character of Lieutenant Reginald Barclay on several iterations of Star Trek fiction. He first appeared as Barclay in Star Trek: The Next Generation, showing up several times on the show. After the series concluded, Barclay would get the chance to play him again in the feature film Star Trek: First Contact. Additionally, he was able to play Barclay again on the TV series Star Trek: Voyager as well.
Schultz has mostly transitioned into doing mostly voice acting work. You can hear him in many animated films, video games, and TV shows these days. Perhaps his most notable voice acting role is on the cartoon series Ben 10, in which he plays the mad scientist Dr. Animo. In his time away from acting, he hosts his own political commentaries and podcasts.
