New Jersey – Armin Shimerman

You might not recognize Armin Shimerman if you were walking past him on the street. But if he were in his Star Trek: Deep Space Nine makeup, then you certainly would. Shimerman’s greatest role is that of the Ferengi bartender Quark on the TV series. Of all the Ferengi shown on screen in the Star Trek lore, Quark is definitely the most popular of them all.

You could say Shimerman was coming into the role with some Ferengi experience. He had actually played a Ferengi on multiple occasions on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Shimerman makes the Quark character so lovable that he’s become a fan favorite for Trekkies. You would even see him on the cover of TV Guide at many times during Deep Space Nine‘s run on television.

Shimerman has the distinction of being one of a very few select set of actors to play the same character in three different Star Trek shows. Although he played different Ferengi characters on The Next Generation, he actually appears as Quark in a Season 7 episode of the series. After a run on Deep Space Nine, Shimerman also appears as Quark on Voyager. He hasn’t gone unseen in the movies as well, as Quark is in the feature film Star Trek: Insurrection.
