A wedding is a symbol of love, and for Kathy Wynn and Ryan Peck there’s no setting more appropriate for that than a Star Trek convention. That’s because for this Trekkie pair Star Trek isn’t just a fandom they love, it’s also the matchmaker that brought them together. Kathy and Ryan met at the Treklanta Star Trek convention in 2016 and then returned in 2017 to make their commitment to each other official.

It wasn’t just the convention that brought these two together though, Mad Magazine, Romulans, and a tea party were also involved…

"“I was having a Romulan tea party and I was of course wearing the Romulan costume with the ears and everything. I was just inviting everyone to come and so I went up and asked him to come” explained Kathy. “I had a Mad Magazine with me, because of the classic photo of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy laughing over it. I wanted to recreate that and I asked her to help me recreate that photo with me” added Ryan. “So that’s our first photo of us, reading a Mad Magazine at a Trek con.”"

So it truly was only fitting that Ryan and Kathy return to Treklanta this year for a truly Star Trek wedding. The wedding itself was truly a Star Trek affair with Star Trek themed attire for the entire wedding party.

What Star Trek wedding would be complete without a Klingon honor guard?

Ryan even got a high-five from J.G. Hertzler, the man behind the great Klingon General Martok from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

As for Ryan and Kathy, they couldn’t be happier.

"“She’s my imzadi, I’ve already made a commitment in my heart, this was just the public display” said Ryan. “We call each other imzadi because that’s what Troy and Riker called each other” explained Kathy."

This Star Trek wedding may seem untraditional to some, but for Kathy and Ryan it was the perfect way to start a new lifelong mission. Live long and prosper Kathy and Ryan!
