Quinto hints multiple Star Trek 4 scripts
Recently, Zachary Quinto speaks on Star Trek 4 in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada about the progress of the next installment of the Kelvin Films.
Quinto hinted that there is a third script being worked on. This is in addition to the Quentin Tarantino and Simon Pegg/Doug Jung scripts. Pegg and Jung co-wrote Star Trek: Beyond, so it is natural that they would have one. The third script is a possible reference to one that JD Payne and Patrick McKay are working on. The Payne/McKay team, along with Roberto Orci, were the ones initially selected to write Beyond.
When the initial announcement for the fourth installment of the Kelvin films was released, Payne/McKay were confirmed to be the ones writing it. Imdb still has them listed as the writers. It will be fun to speculate about who all will be involved with this project Until further word comes out.
My thoughts on this is that the more options the better. Way back when Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country was still in development, there were two scripts. The one we got was written by Nicholas Meyer and the other was by David Loughery, who wrote Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.
The Loughery script would have been about the original crew we know and love during their time at Starfleet Academy along a similar vein of Star Trek 09, without the obvious reset. Had this been the one that was selected, Star Trek: Enterprise would have been different in some aspects.
It is not all bad having multiple ideas to work a film out. This could mean that ideas from one script could find their way into the final version of the film or in a future film.
We will continue to cover any developments as they happen. If you have anything to share or add, let us know on Facebook, Twitter, or in the comments below.
