Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 gets a set of new character posters

All of the primary cast of Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery shine in a series of new character posters released earlier this week.

It seems that in the run up to the release of any new movie, especially those in the geek genre, the hype machine goes nonstop. And the media blitz just isn’t complete unless fans get a series of gorgeous character posters, one for each of thew cast.

They have become standard procedure for almost every summer blockbuster released over the last 30 years. Just recently Star Trek Beyond had them as did Avengers: Infinity War. And now you can add Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 to that list.

I’m not sure if this is the first time a television series has been given a set of character posters in anticipation of a new season, but when they look this good, who really cares?

The series of four posters, first revealed exclusively on IGN.com, are simply beautiful and include two characters each. The parings include Captain Pike and former Emperor Philippa Georgiou, Michael Burnham and Spock, Paul Stamets and Dr. Hugh Culber with things rounded out by Sylvia Tilly and Commander Saru.

Some Discovery fans may be a bit surprised to see Wilson Cruz’s good doctor among those featured since (Spoilers!) he’s, well, dead and all. That said, it has been confirmed that Dr. Culber is going to be back, it’s just that no one seems to know how exactly it happens.

IGN also spoke to Michelle Yeoh about Georgiou’s recruitment into Section 31 and why it’s the perfect fit for the character.

"“Because Section 31 has all the most updated gadgets, because they are the most informed, and she, as an engineer, she can hack into Section 31. And [the Section 31 member who recruited her] Leland thinks he’s in charge of the ship. But she finds out secrets. Because that’s what Section 31 does. It’s collected secrets all over the universe about certain people, and history, and things like that. And so, when you have [those] kind of secrets, it’s power. And for Philippa Georgiou, that’s perfect! So, if she has to be here, she wants to be in Section 31, and she wants to run it, right?”"
