Michael then stops short of telling Captain Pike about the Red Angel she saw while injured on the collapsing asteroid, before they are called to the bridge as another red signal has been detected. It’s too far away for a full scan so they do a quick warp jump to try tp calculate it’s location. 150 years away in the Beta Quadrant.
They begin to discuss the possibility of using the DASH drive to get to it quickly, and start prepping for another Jump. Tilly works with Stamets to prepare him for the jump and he reveals to her that he saw Dr. Culber in the network during a jump after he had already died. Stamets is concerned about what might happen to him if he were to see him again in the network, but agrees to do it regardless.
"If you’re telling me that this ship can skip across the galaxy on a highway made of mushrooms, I kind of have to go on faith. Be Bold. Be brave, Be Courageous. Black Alert. Let’s jump.Captain Christopher Pike"
The jump is complete and Stamets exits the chamber angrily, on the bridge no signal is detected, but sensors read humans, further out then they have settled by this time. A distress call comes in and the ship goes to red alert. Scans show what appears to be a peaceful colony on a planet, no signs of distress. They then discover that the distress signal has been transmitting on a loop for 200 years. Long before the invention of warp drive.

The Credits Roll
Michael Burnham recounts that the humans on this planet would have had to arrive during World War III, we find out that there are 11,000 people, without even electricity who appear to be having a church gathering. As they are pre-warp the prime directive applies. Michael, Saru and Captain Pike discuss the situation and agree to go to the surface to try to find out how they arrived there.
Ensign Tilly in the shuttle bay examines the large rock they captured last week, she attempts to gather a sample from it, each small fragment of it weights several tons, a small flake of the rock destroys a table nearby as she attempts to remove her sample. She is shot across the room and left unconscious and bleeding from the ear following an unknown discharge from her sample.

On the surface a disguised away team beams down and enters a church. Early scans show that the glass in the church is 200 years old and that the symbols in the church are of all religions on Earth. Pike begins to read a bible on the altar, a cobbled together religion with bits of several put together, as Michael scans the book they look across the glass to find out the story, Michael notices the red angel depicted on the wall. They are approached by a man who asks why they are not in the fields and he takes them to a leader of sorts he calls the All Mother.
A history is recounted by the All Mother, explaining that the escaped there from the devastation of World War III, as bombs dropped an angel appeared above and took them to this planet, New Eden. She goes on to explain that they created their own religion from the faith of those who first arrived. The church was apparently transported along with them, they talk about how their battery lost power and they have been unable to restore it. A broken helmet camera from a soldier who was in the church exists, but they are unable to restore it.
Ensign Tilly wakes up in sick bay, where Saru yells about how she could easily have been killed trying to work on the stone alone, Tilly explains that she believes the stone may be able to replace Commander Stamets in the chamber during jumps. Saru explains to Tilly that she needs to learn to ask for help, to put more value on herself and be careful.
Saru is called to the bridge, a gravitational distortion appears to be causing an issue for the planet, within hours there will be an extension level event. Saru theorizes that they have been singled to travel there for a reason, that they must save those on the surface.

"If we were brought here, perhaps this is why. we are responsible not only to our landing party, but to every living being on that planet. Discovery will not allow a catastrophe on her watch.the clock is ticking, let’s get to work.Saru"
The Clock is ticking… Nuclear winter in 60 minutes.
On the surface Pike and company plan to shut off the distress beacon, Michael objects to the idea of leaving the humans there, that Pike believed this was a rescue mission. They continue to debate whether the prime directive applies.
Joanne discovers that the distress call was rigged to continue regardless of the battery being dead. They are approached by a man named Jacob who accuses them of being from Earth, they had believed Earth destroyed, but he and his family had believed they would come one day and be their salvation. Jacob uses a concussion grenade to stop the away team from leaving and locks them in the basement of the church. During the concussive blast we see signs of the red angel. They quickly escape from the basement, and Pike reiterates that they are bound by General Order 1.
Tilly talks to herself in sick bay, she appears to be on a large dose of caffeine, something she quickly confirms as a crew member named May walks in on her, and I mean quickly, she speaks at an impressive rate about trying to find a way to fix the problem with the planet. She needs a massive gravitational field, and realizes while talking at May that she can use the stone and its gravity. She runs out of sick bay to the bridge.
On the bridge Tilly explains to Saru that she has a plan, looking like she’s gone insane she takes the helm seat and explains her plan to the bridge crew. The ship would have to do a donut within the rings of the planet in the next two minutes, but piloting in that situation appears impossible, until Stamets announces that he can do it by jumping the ship and runs off the bridge.

Way to go Stilly…
On the planet Jacob presents the away teams items to the others and tells them that they are from Earth, Jacob is admonished by the all mother for his actions. A little girl picks up a phaser and sets it to overload, Pike grabs it and jumps on top to absorb the blast, he appears near death, bleeding from the chest.
On Discovery they jump into the rings of the planet and begin their donut as they pull the rock behind them with a tractor beam, the rings of the planet form a line following them as they jump away leaving the rings to be pulled away by the rock.
On the planet Jacob and company walk in on the away team being beamed away, which the All Mother takes to be the angel saving them.
Saru thanks Tilly for her actions, saving the away team and the planet. May Stands on the bridge and says “Way to go Stilly’ as Tilly enters the turbo lift, this seems to really bother Tilly but the doors close as she says “wait are you?”
Pike wakes up in sick bay, alive but not in great shape, he has severe damage to his ribs.
Tilly reviews a video in her quarters, her yearbook, and finds out that May is her former schoolmate, but a quick records search turns up that may had since passed away and is not a crew member on Discovery.
Star Trek Discovery New Eden Captain Pike
We’re not lost anymore.
Pike is shown, ribs taped, in his quarters, Burnham arrives and enters. He thanks Burnham for following his orders even after he was injured, she explains that she has learned the value of following orders.
Michael then confides in Pike about the Angel she saw in the previous episode, while she doesn’t believe in its possible divine properties, she knows it’s important. Michael argues that they should have told Jacob the truth, but Pike continues to protest in favour of General Order 1. Michael pleads her case and explains that the helmet cam Jacob talked about from the day they were taken could give them answers.
Jacob works in the church basement, Pike appears and explains the truth, that they are from Earth, from a ship and tells him about the Federation. He explains that they cannot intervene in their evolution on this planet. Jacob thanks Pike for fulfilling his wish to know the answer to his questions about earth and shuts off the distress call.
"Thank you, because of you we’re not lost anymoreJacob."
Pike trades a power cell for the helmet cam. and beams out in full view of Jacob who is floored by the display. He quickly lights the church back up, the townspeople are shocked and look to the stars where discovery sits in orbit.
Puke works on the broken camera in his ready room, the sound of the video is the same as the distress call we heard at the beginning, the footage shows the red angel entering the church as people scramble and a soldier attempts to shield himself from it.
Another solid episode, perhaps even the most Star Trek episode they’ve done on Star Trek Discovery.
