If you are a vinyl enthusiast, then you have had this year’s edition of Record Store Day circled on your calendar for months now. The yearly celebration of independent music stores across the country has steadily gotten bigger and bigger every year with some truly outstanding releases.

For those wonder just what the hell Record Store Day is, it is just what it sounds like; a celebration of vinyl, the superior way to listen to music. Each year numerous bands release incredibly limited edition pressings of vinyl records, which go on sale the first Saturday of April, aka Record Store Day.

And this year, Star Trek fans may want to set their alarms and head out to join in on the fun because believe it or not, there is something available with you specifically in mind.

For the first time ever, the soundtrack to the 2009 Star Trek reboot feature film will be made available on glorious vinyl thanks to Varèse Sarabande. Limited to just 2,000 copies, the album is expected to disappear quickly and likely won’t be made available in the format again.

The album will include all 15 epic tracks from composer Michael Giacchino‘s epic score, the same music from the original 2009 CD release. This edition will include a inner sleeve with images from the film as well as a note from director J.J. Abrams.

As someone who has tried to hunt down prior exclusive Record Store Day releases with little to show for it, if you want to grab this you better make plans now. They usually sell out ridiculously fast and then go for huge money on the secondary market. Plus who knows, maybe you’ll find something else that will grab your fancy.
