Michael Chabon named showrunner for Star Trek: Picard

Many people were wondering who was going to be calling the shots on Star Trek: Picard and now we know that it will be award-winning writer Michael Chabon.

CBS has announced that Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon will be the showruuner for Star Trek: Picard. He will be working closely with writer and producer Akiva Goldsman as well as Alex Kurtzman, who oversees everything Star Trek for the studio.

This will be the first time Chabon will be showunning a television show despite having lots of experience working in the medium. He previously wrote the Star Trek: Short Treks episode “Calypso” as well as having worked on the screenplays for John Carter and Spider-Man 2.

Chabon is perhaps best knows as an author, writing the novels “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay,” “Wonder Boys,” “Telegraph Avenue,” and “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh” among others. He has won the Pulitzer Prize in addition to the Hugo, Nebula, Mythopoeic, Sidewise and too many more to mention here.

In a statement, Chabon says that working on a series like Star Trek: Picard is an honor and a huge responsibility.

I come to work every day in a state of joy and awe at having been entrusted with the character and the world of Jean-Luc Picard, with this vibrant strand of the rich, intricate and complex tapestry that is ‘Trek.’”"

As for Kurtzman, he thinks Chabon and Picard are perfect for each other.

Star Trek: Picard sees Patrick Stewart return to the role of Jean-Luc Picard as the former captain deals with the fallout from a terrible tragedy that caused him to leave Starfleet. The show, which is filming now, is set to arrive on CBS All Access later this year. It co-stars Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Harry Treadaway.
