Taika Waititi is set to return to write and direct a fourth Thor movie, meaning it’s all but certain Star Trek alum Chris Hemsworth will also be back.

It looks all but certain that Chris Hemsworth will be lifting his enchanted hammer once again.

On Tuesday it was reported by The Hollywood Reporter that Taika Waititi has signed on to both write and direct a fourth entry in the Thor film series. The film will be part of the highly anticipated Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, picking up after the events of Avengers: Endgame.

With Waititi on board, it is all but certain that Hemsworth will also sign on to return as the Mighty Thor. It will be the first time a MCU character has starred in four solo adventures, with both Iron Man and Captain America ending after each respective trilogies.

Thor: Ragnarok, the third film in the series and the first directed by Waititi, took the character in a completely new and unexpected direction. The Thunder God suddenly became funny, a marked difference from his portrayal in Thor and Thor: The Dark World. Fans responded by helping the movie earn $854 million worldwide and gave the flagging series a much needed boost.

As every Star Trek fan knows, Hemsworth got his big break in America playing George Kirk in 2009’s Star Trek reboot. Directed by J.J. Abrams, Hemsworth’s performance as James Kirk’s father got him noticed by Hollywood, so much so that he landed the role of Thor in the fledgling MCU. And the rest is history.

Currently it is unknown when exactly Thor 4 will be released or even when it will take place in the MCU timeline. At the end of Endgame, Thor is seen heading into space with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Will Hemsworth appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and then Thor 4, or the other way around?
