SDCC 2019: Anson Mount returns in new Star Trek: Short Treks

Announced at San Diego Comic-Con, three of the six new Short Treks episodes will focus on Captain Pike and the crew of the USS Enterprise.

The Star Trek Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con was not short on big news, including what fans can expect from the new season of Star Trek: Short Treks.

It was already widely known that two of the new mini-episodes would be animated and that one would include the return of Ethan Peck And Rebecca Romijn as Spock and Number One respectively. However Alex Kurtzman has revealed what the rest of the new season will include.

There will be a total of three Short Treks which will take place on the Pike-era Enterprise and yes, Anson Mount will be back at Captain Pike. One will feature Spock and Number One trapped in a turbolift, which already looks like it will become a Star Trek classic, while another features tribbles and co-stars H. Jon Benjamin from Bob’s Burgers and Archer. The third looks like it may be a flashback of sorts as it features Ensign Spock and his arrival on the Enterprise.

In addition to the two already announced animated episodes, according to Kurtzman the sixth and final one will act as a kind of prelude to Star Trek: Picard and will show some of the backstory that leads up to the first episode.

The titles of all six episodes are:

  • Ask Not
  • Q&A
  • The Trouble with Edward
  • The Girl Who Made the Stars
  • Ephaim and Dot
  • Children of Mars

It is becoming more and more apparent that Short Treks is easily one of the best additions to Star Trek in a very long time. The ability to tell shorter stories and take a look at characters that might not warrant a full episode is amazing. Who would have thought that fans would see not one, but three focused on Pike and the Enterprise?

The future of the Short Treks format is wide open so get those petitions going now for who you want to see in a future episode.

As soon as we have release dates for all the episodes you’ll be able to read about it on Redshirts Always Die. And keep it here for our continuing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con.
