On of the most mysterious elements of the new Star Trek: Picard trailer is who exactly Dahj is and why she feels safe with Jean-Luc Picard.
Before San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, the biggest mystery that Trekkers everywhere were obsessed with was what was the name of Picard’s dog. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we all discovered that the pooch’s name in Number One and everybody could relax for a bit.
That was, until the first full trailer for Star Trek: Picard arrived and the members of Trek Nation everywhere totally lost their collective shit.
The “Holy crap” moments of the trailer are almost too many to list here, but the two big ones had to be the appearances of Data and Seven of Nine. While Brent Spiner showing up wasn’t too shocking due to consistent rumors the actor would be involved with the show in some way, Jeri Ryan’s appearance blew the mind of just about every Star Trek fan out there.
But now that a few days have passed and everyone has calmed down a bit, Trekkers are going over the trailer with a fine tooth comb, looking for any clues they can discern about the story and what they can expect to see when the show launches early in 2020.
And the big mystery right now is just who is Dahj and what is her relationship to Picard?
Portrayed by Isa Briones, Dahj would appear to be the MacGuffin of Star Trek: Picard that gets everything rolling and drives the story. But who is she, what does she want and why does she feel so safe around the former captain of the Enterprise?
Theories have been popping up all over the internet ever since the trailer made its debut and while some are pretty out there, others may hold some truth to them.
So after doing our due diligence and watching the Picard trailer a few (hundred) times, here are the three best theories as to who Dahj is and why she may feel a connection to Picard, starting with the least likely.
