If you haven’t subscribed to SyFy Wire, you should, they’re dropping great views on all things science fiction, including Beats Wars and Star Trek.

There’s no SyFy without Star Trek. That’s a comment most people can agree upon, as Star Trek took science fiction from the shadows and thrust it to the mainstream. Its impact is everywhere, including in modern science fiction. Most shows have some elements from Star Trek engrained into it. That’s part of the reason why we’re covering more than just Trek, because for many fans Trek has influenced so much beyond just the series universe.

Without Star Trek’s historical impact, would there even be a Transformers series? What about SyFy? These are questions that can never be fully answered, but there’s no doubt that SyFy has a lot of its fan base from people who love(d) Star Trek. While a lot of their modern shows fail to hit the mark for a wide arrange of fans, their lasting legacy is not just felt on cable these days but also on YouTube with their channel SyFy Wire.

The channel features a lot of great nerd culture stuff and a lot of looks back at past series and movies that fans of Star Trek would love; including a series called Warp Factor that covers Star Trek. The newest video, the one that inspired this column, is from a personal favorite series called Everything You Didn’t Know. This week’s installment covers Transformers: Beast Wars, a series from the ’90s that along with Reboot revolutionized animation on television.

The above video features an in-depth look at the Beast Wars series, the cast, directors, and their influences on the science fiction landscape as a whole. The video also details everything from why the toys were designed as they were, commercial tie-ins, and interesting trivia that most fans won’t know. Unless you’re a huge Beast Wars fan.

Give the video a look and maybe give it a subscribe if you like it.
