Fans of Hulu’s The Orville, your ship’s flag is going to space!

Are you a fan of the science-fiction comedy The Orville? Well if you are, good news! The Orville is going to be part of a rare event that few shows dream of, let alone are able to achieve. You see, the series is apparently sending a few flags from the show into orbit to be adorned on the International Space Station for several months.

According to Richard Garner, in September, a small number of Orville flags will be sent up to the International Space Station inside an Antares rocket. The flags will be stored inside of a  Gruman Cygnus spacecraft at its topmost position. They’ll be attached via a robotic arm and will be attached to the ISS as it orbits the Earth for six months. Then they’ll be brought back into the space station and sent back to Earth inside of a SpaceX shuttle.

The event should be monumental as it’s one of the few times a show will be able to proudly say their flags were presented on such a high profile piece of equipment like the ISS.

When the flags return, the team at The Orville will be given them back, though no information about what will happen to them has been revealed yet. One would think a donation, an auction or Seth MacFarlane stealing one to hide in his attic are all viable possibilities.

The third season of The Orville more than likely won’t be on the air by the time the launch happens, but it may be the perfect avenue for the series to hype up the new season with a teaser trailer the same day the rocket launches into orbit. Talk about an easy promotional device.

The third season is set for 2020 sometime, as a confirmed date can’t be nailed down, due to the filming schedule being interrupted only halfway through completion. When the show is finished, the season will be available on Hulu this time around and not Fox.
