Endless possibilities with the creative side of things.

The series borrowed from real-life parallels involving the early days of Star Trek and how the crew of the series got along behind scenes. If they did. With so much happening from reboots, to completely different entities being made within the realm of Star Trek, this would serve as a unique opportunity to really blow the lid off of things.

Imagine Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver meeting their younger, hotter, rebooted selves at a convention before the four having to go off with the Thermians to stop some kind of disaster. There’s also the possibility that if the series is a hit, and say the Allen’s and Weaver’s of the franchise depart, you could actually hand it off to the rebooted crew, or the Next Generation version of Galaxy Quest.

On top of that, there’s the possibility of bringing in a character that is based on certain modern Star Trek figureheads. The in-show idea that the current executive producer of the new Galaxy Quest series is attempting to kill the Galaxy Quest brand in order to allow an alien invasion to happen would be something twisted and beautiful. Proponents and opponents of the new Trek would find that such a tongue-in-cheek type of moment that it would be nearly impossible to screw up.

You could also have aliens stop fighting in the middle of a space battle and slam on their desk before looking at their viewer and saying something to the effect of, “we can’t keep this battle going, Captain. Our budget has been depleted”, before blitzing off into space.

The endless possibilities to embrace the meta of the Star Trek fandom and make it into the lore of the Galaxy Quest series is too good to pass up.
