Escape Velocity is hosting a Klingon web broadcast on Wednesday, September 23.

The Klingons were reviled aliens when Star Trek: The Original Series premiered in 1966, but by the time Star Trek: The Next Generation debuted in 1987, Klingons were cautiously accepted by humans and other alien nations. And one, Lt. Worf, even served in Starfleet, though his choice wasn’t well-received by other Klingons.

No matter which side of the aisle the Klingons were on, Star Trek fans are fascinated with this alien race, with some even learning the difficult Klingon language developed by Marc Okrand. Currently, there are approximately 298,000 people studying the language on Duolingo. There is also a helpful list of useful Klingon phrases available on Omniglot in case you want to have a private conversation with other Star Trek fans.

But regardless of what you can find online, there is still so much to learn about these warriors who would rather die in battle than survive as a coward. And Wednesday, September 23rd, Klingon and Star Trek fans will have the opportunity to delve a lot deeper into the culture and language.

The Museum of Science Fiction, through Escape Velocity, is hosting “A 90-minute interactive web broadcast that takes an in-depth look at Star Trek’s most developed alien culture.” Robert O’Reilly (Gowron), J.G. Hertzler (Martok), and Marc Okrand will discuss all things Klingon beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets are only $5.00 and available from Escape Velocity’s website.  The full description of the event, as taken from the website, is below.

"No alien sci-fi race is more recognizable than Klingons, and this session will take an in-depth look at their language, their society, their culture and their broad mass appeal through the eyes of two of the most dynamic characters in the Star Trek universe. This session will be a fun-filled romp through the world created by Kahless The Unforgettable."
