Though William Shatner has said he won’t return as Kirk on a series like Patrick Stewart has as Picard, that’s assuming he’s referencing a live-action show. However, an animated series would be easier presumably and even shorter in duration than a full-time series. And even if it were for a limited run only, it would still be a great chance for him to be the original captain once more.

There aren’t too many fans that wouldn’t want to see Kirk resurrected. Think of what an incredible opportunity this would be for Star Trek to make things right with fans by erasing Kirk’s death altogether. There are so many stories that could be told. When he realizes he’s supposedly been dead, Kirk will know the world has changed around him, and he has to catch up with it.

It’s been over twenty-five years, and now he’s a captain without a ship, someone Starfleet thought was dead. They don’t know what to do with him, and he doesn’t know what to do with himself. Reinventing Kirk would be an animated series worth watching. With this type of series, we could have a beginning and ending befitting a captain of the Enterprise.
