Manny Coto wrote some of the highest-rated episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise

Manny Coto began writing for Star Trek: Enterprise in its third season and was responsible for some of the best episodes, including Similitude, a heartbreaking episode about Trip’s clone who was created only to save the chief engineer’s life. In season four of Enterprise, Coto took over as the showrunner and executive producer. earning praise for the path he took for the series. Co-creator and executive producer Brannon Braga, after seeing what Coto did for the show, said he thought that was what the show might have been from the beginning.

Coto became a Trekkie in the 1970s and said the series is what made him fall in love with science fiction. And given the opportunity, he would jump at the chance to work on Star Trek again. Unsurprisingly, Coto wishes he could have worked on the franchise from the start. Many fans probably feel the same way as season four of Enterprise is seen by many as its strongest season.

In fact, Coto loved working on Enterprise so much that he said he “would have died a happy man if he could have been allowed to work on nothing else for the remainder of his life.” And given his success with season four, had Enterprise been greenlit for another season, odds are very good the ratings would have gone up as well.

Unfortunately, Coto’s next science fiction project, neXt, was cancelled after only two episodes had aired in October, which does open up his schedule. Though he’d moved on from Star Trek to 24 and Dexter, it’s clear Manny Coto could be convinced to return to another Star Trek iteration. Perhaps even season five of Enterprise.
