Mr. Spock’s Little Book of Mindfulness can help you lead a better life even when you’re surrounded by illogic

It’s apparent when reading Mr. Spock’s Little Book of Mindfulness that the Vulcan is the author’s favorite character. Glenn Dakin says “it’s not just the logic. It’s the completely open mind. He is happy to mind-meld with a monster or a rock or a whale. A truly original creation.” In short, Mr. Spock is fascinating.

And so is Glenn’s book. Written with both humor and a healthy dose of logic, Mr. Spock’s Little Book of Mindfulness is filled with kernels of wisdom that could have come straight from the Vulcan’s mouth. And when you’re reading it, you can practically hear Mr. Spock delivering some of these lines to Bones aboard the Enterprise.

Black and white drawings of Spock and occasionally other characters enhance the insight found in each of the chapters. Chapters that cover everything from family to truth. And, of course, no book bearing Spock’s name would be complete without a section on feelings which is particularly helpful for those struggling with setbacks in life.

Mr. Spock’s Little Book of Mindfulness isn’t a self-help book that’s going to make all of your troubles go away, but it will help you retrain your brain to think more logically about what affects you most and how to handle life’s problems.

As we all know, there is no simplistic solution to everything we humans must face on a daily basis, but learning to adapt can be a little easier with something to guide us. This book can do that. Throw in some laughs and ah-ha moments where you just get the point the author’s trying to make, and you can see how one small guidebook can make a difference in your everyday life. And mirroring our lives after the famous Vulcan might just turn out to be the best thing that’s ever happened to us.

Next. Though originally pitched for Star Trek: Enterprise, one episode could be perfect for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. dark
