The proposed Star Trek: Nemesis sequel sounded amazing, and would’ve been a brilliant way to close out the first two iterations of the franchise.

Star Trek: Nemesis was supposed to have a sequel. That’s not surprising, most major film studios these days always intend on having a sequel, but how many would have had the history and lore of the Star Trek franchise to pull from. The idea was for the folks at Star Trek to do a fifth film to send off The Next Generation crew in style. A style that would’ve been so epic, and so amazing, that it would’ve done the one thing that everyone wanted; a crossover film.

The original idea for the film would’ve seen Jean-Luc Picard having to deal with Shinzon again, but this time in a time travel story. Shinzon would recruit the greatest villains in Star Trek history, namely Khan Noonien Singh, and wage a war on Picard. In order to stop him, Picard would recruit James Kirk, Spock, Data, and Jonathan Archer to name a few.

Star Trek alums Brent Spiner and Patrick Stewart have both commented on this proposed film in the past.

The movie would even see Admiral Kathryn Janeway, Voyager, her crew, Deep Space Nine, and all of their inhabitants as well. All centered on a war with the Romulans, which would feature The Titan and Defiant fighting side by side among other classic Star Trek ships.

Considering this was at a time when all the original actors were still with us, it would have been feasible, if not expensive. Having Ricardo Montalban cut lines with Scott Bakula? Spock and Data debating the morality of a given plan? Seeing Kirk and Shinzon trade barbs? Sign us up! Heck, we could have had even more characters like Seven of Nine, the Borg, Gul Dukat, Ben Sisko, the possibilities are endless.

Could you imagine Archer and Dukat? Ugh, it’s a license to print money. Brent Spiner, who played Data and all of his likenesses, was going to write the script but due to Nemesis’ failure, the studio just gave up on Star Trek for a while.

What could have been…
