Star Trek: Deep Space Nine alum Cirroc Lofton reveals that Avery Brooks does want to act again, leading some to believe a return to the franchise is possible.

To many Star Trek fans, Cirroc Lofton will always be Jake Sisko, the positive force on Deep Space Nine who only wanted the best for his family, his friends, and those on the station. He became a voice through his writing and the character was seen as someone who had conviction. It’s part of the reason why fans are still enamored with the character today. Lofton isn’t in a Trek series anymore but he’s still attached to the franchise through his 7th Rule Podcast. In one of the more recent episodes on their YouTube channel, Lofton revealed that his former on-screen father, Avery Brooks (who played Captain Ben Sisko) wants to return to acting but has been kept on the sidelines due to underhanded industry politics.

Brooks had thought to have been retired for a long time, filling his time by teaching the art of acting. Lofton though, hints that this wasn’t a willing retirement.

"I think it needs to be said because this is an important time we’re living in where we’re becoming very socially aware of the types of things that are regressive in society, things that are racial, sexual and all kinds of revolutions we are having in thought and acceptance of people."

The quote below can be found at 25:00 on the video above.

"There’s something bigger there, in which he is kind of being discriminated against…..To say that he’s not wanting to act is actually kind of ridiculous"

If you watch the rest of the video, you’ll see and hear that everyone wants to see Brooks return to acting. Why he hasn’t really at all in recent years is a question to be asked as there are other avenues besides Hollywood. It is implied that Brooks has gotten some roles but nothing to his caliber.

Here’s hoping that if Brooks can return to acting. Especially if that means more Benjamin Sisko.
