Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ended its seven season run on June 2, 1999 but the return of the characters is always a possibility

With rumors of a Deep Space Nine reboot still in the air and the possibility of Avery Brooks returning to action, it’s no wonder fans want to know if the characters from the space station would ever make their way back to the screen. We followed their lives for seven seasons, and we would have loved to have followed them for longer. Would Captain Sisko still be with the prophets? Would Colonel Kira still be in charge of the station? And would Dr. Julian Bashir still be there as well?

When the series ended, Alexander Siddig, who portrayed the genetically-enhanced Dr. Julian Bashir, had been recruited by Section 31, but he was never a fan of the shady organization so there’s little doubt he would have tried to dismantle it. (The novel Star Trek: Section 31 Control covers this in-depth.) So then, where would that have left him?

Even Siddig himself doesn’t know where his character would be almost 22 years later, although he does have some questions like “Would Section 31 have finally compromised his ethics? Would he have quit the Federation altogether and become a professor? Maybe he wound up in command?”  Those questions could be answered with a return, and Siddig does admit that he wouldn’t mind revisiting him on Star Trek: Picard or on the upcoming Section 31 series.  But, as other actors have mentioned, Siddig isn’t sure he’d return to the character just for a cameo. But he, like all the fans, would be interested to know where Dr. Julian Bashir is now.

"I’m not sure I’d feel like stepping back into Bashir’s shoes again for a cameo, a disposable tidbit to move the action along in. I’d certainly be interested in a good in-depth look at him and where he’s at though."

Perhaps we’ll get a chance to see what Dr. Bashir is up to now as, thanks to Star Trek: Picard, we’ve already been able to see the treks of some of our other favorite Star Trek characters. Hopefully, the Deep Space Nine characters will start showing up…or the series really will return.
