ViacomCBS has unveiled the 55th-anniversary logo for Star Trek, which starts of a loaded 2021 for not just the franchise but the network as well.

ViacomCBS is coming into 2021 with huge hopes. They’re relaunching CBS All Access as Paramoaunt+ and aim to have major shows like Jersey Shore, Spongebob Squarepants, sports Young Sheldon and yes, even Star Trek, as the focal point of the new streaming service.

To go along with the new streaming service is a brand new logo to not only kick off 2021 but the 55th anniversary of Star Trek itself. The logo features icons of the series, the gold(command/engineering), red (engineering/command), and blue (science) of the ship divisions. The iconic Delta Insignia, which later became the Starfleet logo, and of course the silhouette of the original ship of Star Trek, the U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701).

The logo captures the essence of the original franchise at a time when the franchise is getting back to head to a time before.

In 2021 the long-awaited debut of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will debut with Anson Mount returning as Captain Pike, Rebecca Romijn playing Number One, and Ethan Peck as Spock. The series will serve as a prequel to the Original Series, and will also serve as a sort of “unboot” of sorts. All three characters were originally created to be part of the pilot of The Original Series.

Instead of continuing on, they scrapped every character from the original pilot except for Spock and created a brand new crew around him. That crew became the iconic characters of the series. The original cast and crew, however, were later retconned to be the “previous” crew of the Enterprise, one that Spock served with. So it’s only fitting that ViacomCBS creates a new logo harking back to the original series when the original crew is finally getting their chance to tell their stories.

That’s not the only new show coming out this year, as Star Trek: Prodigy is also coming out in 2021 on Nickelodeon and will feature Kate Mulgrew returning as Kathryn Janeway for the series, though nothing else is known at the time.

ViacomCBS has also new merch featuring the logo, which you can check out here.
