Star Trek: Discovery has certainly shaken up the status quo for the brand and it may get shaken up more in season four with new Federation aliens.

One of the best parts of Star Trek has always been the aliens we get to meet and Alex Kurtzman is hinting at new aliens joining the federation during season four of Star Trek: Discovery. Speaking to the BlerdGurl podcast, Kurtzman and fellow showrunner Olatunde Osunsanmi talked about the future of the series.

Among topics discussed were the development cycle of season four taking longer due to COVID-protocols, as well as potential changes coming to Discovery fan-favorite Saru.

Another fun tidbit from the interview, however, involved the possibility of new planets joining Starfleet in season four. This could mean former planets re-joining or alien races we know, signing on for the first time, or brand new, never-seen-before aliens joining up.

Kurtzman hinted at the possibility of new planets joining the Federation by saying;

"At the end of season three with the Federation, Humpty Dumpty really does kind of just come back together, but they have a long way to go. There’s still many, many species and planets that are not members of the Federation. So it’s an amazing first step in a brighter future. But ultimately, there’s a long way still left to go. Without spoiling anything, that’s a lot of what season four is going be about."

There are plenty of alien races to join up with Starfleet, and not just one the ones from the Alpha quadrant. There are Delta Quadran and Gamma Quadrant aliens who can find their way to the Federation by means of wormholes.

Could you imagine the Jem’Hadar and the Hirogen trying to have a diplomatic summit? Forget everything else, forget the characters, plots, and arcs. Season four of Discovery should just be a 16-part series where the Jem’Hadar and Hirogen have to broker a land deal, with the Klingons overseeing it.

That’s the money angle fans will pay to see.
