Star Trek: Picard has found itself dealing with a filming delay according to series regular Jeri Ryan, who plays Seven of Nine on the show.

Star Trek had a nice little run from the end of 2020 to the start of 2021 with Star Trek’s Lower Deck and Discovery airing for 23 consecutive weeks on CBS All Access (soo to be Paramount+). The hope for many was that Picard would start production on season two in early 2021. The second season is expected to see Patrick Stewart back as Jean-Luc Picard, and more involving Jeri Ryan, who plays Seven of Nine on Picard.

Unfortunately, Picard and Seven of Nine aren’t expected to return to the screen any time soon according to Ryan herself.

Addressing a fan on Twitter, who asked her if she’d be returning to work this week as was previously rumored, Ryan shot down the production start-date, saying “No. But soon.”

This seems to be a bigger trend right now, more than likely caused by the transition of power over at ViacomCBS (originally just CBS was calling the shots), the transition from CBS All Access to Paramount+ and the global pandemic that has been raging for nearly a year at this point.

Another Star Trek show that seems impacted is Strange New Worlds, which has not had any real announcements about its future as of yet, despite having been announced in 2020. Not to mention the film franchise hitting the skids as well.

This is none the more evident in the production of Star Trek: Discovery, which went from filming back to back seasons, to just filming season four at the moment. In a recent interview, the crew of Discovery revealed that the show was having long delays due to the precautions being taken due to COVID-19, so there’s no doubt that’s playing a major part in the delay for the rest of the Trek series.

Next. Star Trek: Discovery may see a brand new type of villain for season four. dark
