Star Trek fans are some of the most committed fans in the world, and one of the reasons (beyond our love of the franchise) is because the actors are just as committed. They don’t just play the characters; they become a part of this universe, showing up at conventions, sending shoutouts on social media, and even taking to Cameo to send love and encouragement to a terminally-ill fan. Which is exactly what Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes did.

Julie Moores best friend, Mike, is battling terminal cancer. She wanted to do something special for him, something to lift his spirits. Knowing how much her best friend loves Star Trek, she teamed up with ProMedica Hospice Memorial fund to gift Mike some very special videos from Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes.

Both actors offered their support and love to the fan, with Spiner saying he wished he could make everything better for Mike.

I wish I had the words or the ability to make everything better, but unfortunately, I’m just an actor.

Spiner had no way of knowing that his words alone had the power to make things better. No, they wouldn’t heal Mike, but he adored the videos so much that he asked that they both be saved to an external drive and placed in his urn along with his ashes.

As fans, we know the impact these shows have on our lives, and we’re invested in these characters. Oftentimes, as geeky as it may sound, we know them so well, they are like family to us. So it made perfect sense that Julie Moores would reach out to Mike’s television family to uplift her friend’s spirits. And we’re happy that Spiner and Frakes came through with an overabundance of love.
