Fans of the comedy-drama science fiction series, The Orville, have been impatiently waiting for the third season to begin…or even news that the third season is underway or around the corner. Season two ended quite some time ago, and we’re all still waiting. While we don’t have an exact release date for it, thanks to CBR, we do have some information pertinent to season three, specifically about the move to Hulu when it does return.
There will only be eleven episodes
Season one, which debuted in September 2017, consisted of twelve episodes, and season two had fourteen. So while the fewer episodes might be disappointing, there is some good news about the shortened season.
The episodes will be longer
Each episode will be twelve to fifteen minutes longer. When you factor that in, it averages out to about thirteen episodes timewise. This will allow for more character development and more fleshed-out storylines so there aren’t any strings left untied.
Get ready for a mature rating
This shouldn’t come as a surprise since the series will be airing first on Hulu unlike when it aired on Fox. Hulu, like most streaming services, is notorious for upping the mature content when it comes to its own series.
Episodes will release weekly
This one stings a little. With a release on Hulu, we were anticipating being able to binge all of the episodes at once. Alas, that isn’t going to happen. Instead, the episodes will release each week like they did on Fox. It will be disappointing for those of us who just started watching The Orville on Hulu, but we will adapt.
And, as a final bit of news, The Orville’s Jessica Szohr, who plays chief of security Talla Keyali, did just share an update on her Instagram. Although she doesn’t say when everyone will be returning, hopefully, production isn’t took far off now.
With CBR reporting that The Orville has a tentative return date for production for the latter half of this year, there’s a good chance we might not see season three until 2022. Hopefully, I’m wrong, and we get a happy surprise with at least a couple of episodes arriving before Thanksgiving!
