Star Trek Discovery: Sonequa Martin-Green debuts in Space Jam trailer
By Chad Porto
March of 1997 saw the world receive the gift (curse?) that was the original Space Jam. It starred one of the greatest basketball players of all time, and arguably the biggest sports crossover star of the 90s in Michael Jordan. It saw Jordan star alongside the cast and characters of the Looney Tunes. It also featured the likes of Larry Bird, Bill Murray, and NBA legends Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Muggsy Bogues, and Shawn Bradley.
It was announced a few years ago that a sequel/remake, starring current NBA superstar LeBron James was in the works, and would see the Looney Tunes return to battle a new group of basketball evildoers.
Along for the ride this time will be NBA stars Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, Draymond Green, and Kyle Kuzma as well as WNBA players Diana Taurasi, Nneka Ogwumike, and Chiney Ogwumike.
They won’t be alone, as Star Trek: Discovery’s very own Sonequa Martin-Green will be in the film as well. She’ll play the on-screen wife of James.
Martin-Green joined the cast in 2019 and was one of the first big names to join the project outside of James. She’s also best known for her time on the Walking Dead as well as her starring role on Star Trek: Discovery as Michael Burnham.
The sequel will see James and his son get transported to a virtual reality type space, where Don Cheadle’s Al-G Rhythm takes his son and forces James to play in a basketball game to get his son back. James will have to team up with the Looney Tunes to take on the Goon Squad in order to defeat Al-G Rhythm.
Joining the NBA stars, Jeff Bergman, Eric Bauza, Bob Bergen, Zendaya, Gabriel Iglesias, and Candi Milo. The movie is a combination of live-action, animation, and CGI.
