The Search for Spock gets a modernized trailer

Grossing more than $80 million against a $16 million budget, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock picked up where Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan left off. After Admiral Kirk realizes Spock’s katra has been placed inside Dr. McCoy, he and his crew steal the Enterprise and head off in search of Spock’s body which they hope to find on the Genesis planet.

As most trailers did in 1984, the original one for The Search for Spock utilized the ominous tones of a narrator who invited viewers to watch “the final voyage of the starship Enterprise” and shared very little about the movie itself. Other than showing Admiral Kirk and his crew stealing the Enterprise, there’s nothing else to indicate what the movie is about. A fan rectified that with a more modernized version of the trailer, created in the style of Star Trek: Beyond.

The Search for Spock trailer is exciting and fresh

Utilizing voiceovers that include the wonderful lines from Dr. McCoy after the Enterprise is destroyed and quick flashes of some of the best scenes, this trailer gives a viewer every reason to watch this movie again. Add in Rhianna’s “Sledgehammer” as background music, and ManticoreEscapee (the Youtube creator) creates a unique take on the follow-up movie to Wrath of Khan.

Explosions, phaser hits, fights, and threats abound in this trailer that lasts almost two minutes. It’s fresh, exciting, and practically establishes The Search for Spock as a brand-new movie. In fact, one commenter even said “now with this new trailer, I would go see it again.”

Star Trek fans never cease to amaze me with their talents, and taking a trailer from 1984 and shaping it into a trailer that would work onscreen today takes a special kind of talent, one that deserves to be shared. Watch the trailer; you’ll be glad you did.
