IDW is launching a new comic called Star Trek: The Mirror War

Star Trek as a comic series is always ripe for some interesting storytelling. The folks at IDW seem to agree and are tackling a rarely seen literary angle, and turning it into a year-long event (according to StarTrek.com). The comic would see Jean-Luc Picard of the Mirror Universe leading the remains of the Terran Empire to a new era of prosperity.

According to StarTrek.com, the Comic will launch with #0 in September and will continue for a year, with another eight issues to be printed and sold. There are also going to be four interspersed tie-in specials that will focus on a  member of the crew. The first one up, in December, is Data. All in all, there will be 13 books and fans should expect a trade paperback sometime in 2022.

Mirror Jean-Luc Picard is as awful as you think.

While never seen in the show, the mirror version of Jean-Luc Picard is as awful as you’d expect him to be. He’s everything the television version of Picard wasn’t. Womanizing, abusive, and of course, pure evil. His tactics make him feared and those that encounter him are never the same.

The things he does to his own people are in itself worth picking up the stories that feature him. Some are novels, like Dark Mirror by Diane Duane. Then there are the comics, some of which are direct prequels to the upcoming Mirror Wars saga, like Mirror Broken, Through the Mirror, and Terra Incognita. All three of those prequel comics were written by Scott and David Tipton.

Scott and David Tipton are also working on the new Mirror War arc as well. Carlos Nieto will handle the art for the series, and the cover art for the “A” portion of #0. The “B” cover will be handled by Ejiwa Ebenebe. With a retailer version cover of #0 being handled by Bex Glendining.
