Are there any new updates with The Orville?

Season 3 of The Orville, which was created by and stars Seth MacFarlane, began filming back in December, but they were forced to shut down again before finally being able to resume on January 18. So far, no other delays have been indicated about the science fiction dramedy, but things aren’t moving anywhere near as fast as fans would like.

We’re getting updates here and there (thank goodness!) as to what is going on, but the truth is, we’re probably not going to know much until filming is completed. Being told that filming continues is reassuring, though, like the latest tweet from Jon Cassar, who is the director of the second episode of the season. At least we know things are moving forward.

Cessar shared this short video on May 14th, but that doesn’t mean other episodes haven’t already been filmed as oftentimes episodes are filmed out of order for various reasons. So while episode two might be currently filming, The Orville could have more episodes under its belt already.  Certainly, that’s what fans are hoping for.

Seth MacFarlane tweeted a shout out to Bill Brummond who is the camera operator on The Orville, which left fans giddily excited. It’s another way of acknowledging that things are progressing.

The Orville cast is hoping for a release this year

While no season three release date has been confirmed, according to HITC, the cast is hoping for an October 2021 premiere. Tom Constantino, co-producer of The Orville, shared a masked-up and made-up photo of Chad Coleman a few days ago on set. He shares updates regularly so he’s definitely worth following to help you keep up with behind-the-scenes information.

Once filming ends, post production will take quite some time as it’s been noted that this is a show with a long post production cycle. For most shows, that can take anywhere from four to twelve weeks. As filming is currently ongoing, it doesn’t look promising for that October release the cast is hoping for.  Maybe December is a possibility. We’re almost halfway through the year so what’s another six months?

The last episode of The Orville to air was the season two finale on April 25, 2019. Two years is a long time to wait for another season, but die-hard fans will wait, and they will tune in when the third season makes it debut.
