Star Trek Picard: John de Lancie confirms the return of several characters
By Chad Porto
Star Trek: Picard will see several characters back for season two according to John de Lancie.
John de Lancie is spoiling his way through his Cameo’s. Patrick Stewart, Whoopie Goldberg, and de Lancie himself have all been confirmed (one way or another) of having been brought back to the world of Star Trek: Picard. Well, de Lancie isn’t done dropping some minor spoilers as he’s also confirmed that two cast members from both the first season of Picard and their original series as well, The Next Generation, will be back for season two.
Both names were expected back but now they’ve been confirmed by de Lancie, saying that Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner will be back in season two as well. Frakes and Spiner were both expected back, as Frakes handled some directing duties for season one, so it made sense he’d be involved again to some extent. Spiner’s return was also expected, but not as Data, but as Data’s creator Altan Inigo Soong.
That may not be the complete situation, however.
One character not done just yet?
Most of the first season of Picard saw the cast deal with Data’s last hurrah on top of his “offspring”. It seemingly felt like the entire first season was designed to give Picard and fans of the franchise one last story involving Data, as a way to almost send him off with a bit more revelry than he got in Star Trek: Nemesis.
Curiously, de Lancie mentioned Data by name when talking about upcoming scenes he was doing.
"I am on the next season of Picard. And Sir Patrick and I have had a whole bunch of scenes, which we thoroughly enjoyed working with each other. I have got one coming up with Data on this coming Tuesday. So yeah, we are moving along."
This has led to some speculating that there will be a time-travel element with de Lancie and Picard. Since de Lancie is reprising his character Q, a being with almost untold powers, it’s certainly possible that they go back in time.
It may also be a hologram or a dream sequence. There’s no real way to know.
