Two legends in Mike Tyson and William Shatner are joining forces in a new commercial.

One is the heavyweight champion of boxing and the other is the name most synonymous with the Star Trek franchise. Mike Tyson and William Shatner are joining forces to sell a new copper gel that helps alleviate pain. They have over 140 combined years of life on this Earth, so they have experience.

Ironically, the commercial plays out like a mini-story. Starting first on Twitter, Tyson calls Shatner and invites him to help film the commercial and hawk the gel. They both seem on board with the plan and Shatner even tries to tell Tyson he’ll help train him.

This leads to the actual commercial, where the two are in a boxing ring with Shatner watching Tyson bob and weave. Shatner then gets the brilliant idea of wanting Tyson to punch him. Tyson, knowing he still has that pop left in his punches, decides it’s a bad idea, but much like Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Shatner thinks it’s a great idea.  Oh, Shatner.

William Shatner is no stranger to commercials.

Whether he’s trying to sell you sleeping machines or doing Priceline commercials with Kaley Cuoco, Shatner has always had a second career as an adman. There’s no telling if Shatner being involved in Tyson’s new copper gel is going to generate massive sales, but it is a bizarre contrast.

Here is Tyson, one of the most dangerous combat athletes of all time, doing a commercial with Shatner, whose most famous fight was with a guy in a lizard (Gorn) costume that didn’t even have a movable mouth.

At least they have something in common though, they’re both WWE Hall of Famers for what that’s worth. Still, the commercial is an interesting juxtaposition.

The commercial is mildly amusing and gives Tyson and Shatner a unique piece of history to share with one another, and for fans of both men, that’s something on its own.
