Watch: Certifiably Ingame’s “Star Trek Aliens: What Are They Good At?”
By Chad Porto
Certifiably Ingame broke down the best traits of the Star Trek aliens.
The universe of Star Trek is filled with diverse and unique alien creatures some of which are based on cultures and societies on Earth. Like those older nations with their traits and specificities, these alien races usually have one overwhelming and defining trait. The Federation tries to be diplomatic, Vulcans have a superior sense of self-worth, Romulans are deceptive, Cardassians are cruel, the Klingons are honorable warriors, the Borg represent life without a soul. They’re all unique and specific, and rarely share those predominant traits with another race.
With unique traits come unique capabilities. Things that make their race stand out. Klingons are great warriors, so their weaponry is top-notch. Romulans spy, and have the ability to discover forged information. The Cardassians have ingenious ways to torture someone, while the Breen has developed technology that can keep them alive outside of their homeworld.
This is something that the
YouTube channel Certifiably Ingame wants to dive deeper into his new video.
Looking at technology in Star Trek.
The video does a great job focusing on the technological aspects of a few of the superpowers in the Trek universe but even the creator admits that it’s hard to solely look at that. A lot of the technology is shared, so sometimes the best thing that an alien race has to offer is their culture.
As the creator emphasizes, he wanted to focus on the technology and not on the races stereotypes but as you’ll see, sometimes it’s hard to separate the two. It’s pretty evident that a lot of the cultural stereotypes that these races harbor end up affecting what they focus on technologically speaking.
That’s pretty evident when the video switches to focus on the Romulans and Klingons, two races who handle their issues very differently, but also very effectively. The video does a nice job scratching the surface of the topic, so if you want to hear more, be sure to let the creator know.
