Connor Trinneer wasn’t a fan of the T’pol/Trip relationship

As much as fans enjoyed the romantic relationship between T’Pol and Commander Charles “Trip” Tucker, III, neither one of the actors did. Jolene Blalock, who portrayed T’Pol,  thought the character of Trip was too emotional while Connor Trinneer, who portrayed Trip Tucker didn’t believe the chief engineer would fall in love with woman with repressed emotions who only had sex every seven years, something he called a “dealbreaker.”

At DragonCon’s Trek Trak back in 2005, Trinneer told the audience that he did talk to the writers about the relationship because he didn’t see Trip being with someone who didn’t show emotions. Obviously, the writers didn’t change anything. Still, Trinneer felt like, because of the way the writers had written the relationship, Trip acted like his spine had been taken away from him. He said that he was just following T’Pol around. In essence, he was letting her make all the decisions about their relationship, even whether or not they had one.

Connor Trinneer wasn’t a big fan of the intimate scenes, either

With Trinneer feeling that the relationship wasn’t believable and Jolene Blalock disliking it, it’s commendable that both actors still managed to bring the romance to life onscreen. Though, Trinneer admits the love scenes were especially difficult.

"“You do these scenes with people that you develop friendships with on the show, and it’s generally uncomfortable to go in there and do a sex scene,.”"

That’s something that more than one actor has said in the past as the reality of the behind-the-scenes is nowhere near as sexy as what is portrayed on camera. It’s basically two actors doing a job with cameras pointing at them.

Bringing a romance to life onscreen can’t be easy even if the actors are for the idea. Playing the parts when it’s not something the actors agree with has to have been more challenging. But I doubt that will make fans like it less because Trinneer and Blalock managed to make the romance sparkle in spite of their dislike of it.
