What kind of Easter eggs can we expect on SNW?
Filming for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will tell the story of Captain Pike and his crew aboard the Enterprise before Captain Kirk took command, is well into the seventh episode, according to Rebecca Romijn who will portray Number One, the captain’s second in command. And though she couldn’t reveal much about the plot, she did encourage viewers to look for Easter eggs as there are “so many on this show.”
We don’t know if the Easter eggs will be as clear as a bottle of wine from Captain Picard’s family in Captain Georgiou’s ready room on Star Trek: Discovery or the recreated trial of Captain Kirk and Dr. McCoy from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country in the Star Trek: Lower Decks’ episode “Veritas.” Perhaps they’ll be as obscure as Captain’s Kirk phaser in the opening credits of Discovery. Either way, Romijn said she couldn’t say anything else.
SNW is in keeping with the original series
Romijn went on to say that Strange New Worlds will be following in the footsteps of the original series with the episodes being standalone. She said the series will be a bit lighter, presumably than Discovery or Star Trek: Picard, and confirmed that the crew will be visiting planets and colonies.
She added that another bit of fun is the fact that both her character and Captain Pike outrank Spock. While the captain outranking him isn’t unusual, having the second in command outranking him is as that was Spock’s job aboard the Enterprise with Captain Kirk.
It sounds like the series will be filled with fun space adventures and maybe even some of the banter we got used to on Star Trek: The Original Series. Hopefully, the wait won’t be too much longer!
